Principal's Message

Barton Families!

Welcome to the new school year! I'm excited to serve as your principal and reconnect with our returning students and to meet the newest members of the Barton community joining us this year. Our staff is looking forward to meeting and greeting our students on the first day of school on August 31, 2022.

To ensure that we are prepared for the first day of school, please note the following information below.

Arriving to School

*Students are allowed on campus starting at 7:30 am.

*Students can enter at the gate on Bentree near the auditorium and flagpole, the main office entrance, and near the library on Ridgewood.

*The cafeteria will start serving breakfast at 7:30 am. At this time, students are allowed to walk to the cafeteria to have breakfast. The cafeteria closes at 7:55, so please arrive on time so students can eat breakfast and be ready to learn in class.

*Due to fire regulations, only students are allowed to eat in the cafeteria. Our TK, Head Start, and Kinder families are more than welcome to stand outside the cafeteria until students are done eating. Staff supervision will be posted in the cafeteria, and our younger students will be at a table separate from the older students.

*Families are welcome to be on campus for the first day of school. After the morning bell rings for students to enter class at 8:00 am, we are asking that families leave so students can start learning

*The first day of school is a Minimum Day for students in all grades. Students will be dismissed at 1:00 pm.

*Thursday is our regularly scheduled Early Out Day, so school is dismissed at 1:30 pm.

*For the first three weeks of school, our TK, Head Start, and Kinder classrooms will be dismissed at 1:00. Please communicate with your child's classroom teacher.

*Families, please be mindful of the traffic signs, double-parking, blocking neighbors' driveways, and students crossing the street. The first day will be congested, so please arrive early and respect the rules of the road.

Uniforms & Cell Phones

*Khaki has been added to our list of colors for student uniform colors.

*For safety reasons, Crocs are not allowed to be worn on campus.

*Students can wear jeans, but the jeans must not contain intentionally made large holes and rips.

*The school is not responsible for lost or stolen jewelry. Please keep these personal and expensive items at home.

*Students can have cell phones on campus, but please speak with your students about proper cell phone etiquette. All phones should be put away during class and recess time and should not be taken out until students are dismissed from school and off campus.

As the year progresses, please remind students of the importance of being on time and at school every day. This is especially critical in grades K-2 when students are learning the foundational skills in Reading, Writing, and Math. Students cannot learn successfully if they are not at school or habitually tardy to class. Let’s work together to have our students on time and at school every day.

Volunteers in Classrooms and on Campus

Barton families, as we continue to prepare for our first day of school, I encourage all parents to volunteer at the school; there are many tasks that volunteers can perform at Barton. As I’ve stated countless times, it indeed takes a village to raise a child, so we need our parents’ participation in our students’ educational journey. If you are interested in being a volunteer, please stop by the front office to pick up a VIPs application.

I look forward to working with you as a team to help each student at Barton meet their goals and have a successful school year. Our Barton staff is eager to begin what promises to be the best year yet!
